Cycling and beer in Belgium

http://merrypedallerbiketours.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/IMG_2105-1024x768-300x225.jpg

2 things I loved about Belgium were that they are bike mad….everyone cycles everywhere and beer is BIG! Actually there’s 3 things…the waffles aren’t bad either! As for the beer….we knew Belgium had great beers but we didn’t really realise quite how many until we went for 3 days! Hundreds and hundreds of beers! Ok we didn’t try them all but we had a good go……sorry about the quality-it was a long session! We did fit some sightseeing it of …

Panniers help with shopping…actually I spend less too as I have to think about how much i can get in my panniers…well sometimes a rucksack on my back as well! We provide …

White Lodge on Open House Day

http://merrypedallerbiketours.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/IMG_1928-1280x852-190x126.jpg

Sunday 23rd September Oh dear what awful weather today!! The predicted tail end of a South American hurricane for Sunday meant I had cancelled our scheduled ride as this just looked no fun at all! Unfortunately I did not hear from all the guests booked in so turned up at Richmond anyway in case they showed up. One lady did and we decided it really was not a good day for a tour and I was happy to reschedule another …

Holi Festival in Twickenham

http://merrypedallerbiketours.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/IMG_1268-800x534-190x126.jpg

This wonderful Hindu festival celebrating the advent of Spring came to Twickenham on Sat 10th March. It was a bright sunny day thankfully and a perfect day for a cycle ride around Richmond Park and for the group coming with me a perfect way to get a tour of the whole area. This distance would have been impossible to cover in 1 day on foot and to finish with this festival set in the grounds of Orleans House was quite …

Young at heart pedallers

http://merrypedallerbiketours.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IMG_9383-640x427-300x200.jpg

Most of our trips so far have been with people from about 20 to 60 years old but my mum reckons she and her friends would be interested too.  She’s 71 and fit for her age and has joined me on several bike rides now. Despite not having cycled for 20 years previously she now enjoys it and has a favourite bike that she uses. One day she even decided to join me on the longest ride we do to …

The first means of transport with 2 wheels was the German Draisine,  the dandy-horse, dating back to 1817.
